Winter Nest Refuge Photo

Peek in a nest box in late winter:

mice in nest box

Late in winter, it is a good idea to clean out the nest boxes. Bluebirds begin seeking nesting sites in February. You may discover unexpected guests like these mice.

There was a very strong smell of urine, too. The mice probably spent the winter sheltered in the box.

Brainstorm:

How could we keep the mice out of a nestbox during the winter?
