Milkweed Symmetry
Scientists and mathematicians
look for patterns in nature. One example of a pattern is symmetry.
Reflectional Symmetry is when one side of something
is a mirror image of the other side. This is also called line
symmetry or mirror symmetry.

Look at the milkweed plant on the right.
Notice that the leaf labeled A
looks exactly like the leaf labeled
B.
B is a mirror image of A.
There are two other examples of symmetry in the
plant.
Can you spot them? Examine it carefully.
As you explore Milkweed Mania, you will find several
examples of reflectional symmetry. Be on the look out for them.
